As the title suggests, this post is a useful bit of advice.
First of all, this is not a guide to help to get through 1st Yr. Neither is this a handbook on how to deal with your seniors. All I can say, this will help ease up your troubles a little bit.
Now, here we go. Here are the tips to help you(or annoy you) -
1. The favourite word of the BIT Wardens is LG - Don't mistake it with the home appliances giant - it stands for Local Guardian. You'll require him whenever you want to escape from hostel.
You might get lucky if no major ragging incident happens. Then you might be allowed to leave after giving the Warden the pleasure of speaking to your parents.
2. The Wardens will try their best to assure that the BIT Hostel will be ragging free. But take my word, you'll have to face ragging unless you opt to become batch-out like me.
3. Try and learn all the "Fundas" of BIT Hostel - though you'll be tortured by your seniors to the extent that you'll soon learn all of them. A few of them here -
3.1 Wear plain full-sleeve shirts and Plated-pants only. No trousers or jeans.
3.2 Black leather shoes, laced.
3.3 Pick up your bag in your hand while passing your seniors rooms.
3.4 Always wish your seniors as "Good Morning, Sir"(Morning), "Good Afternoon, Sir"(Afternoons) & "Good Evening,Sir"(Evening & nights).
3.5 Learn to listen swear words(Gaali) from one ear & expel from the other ear. Don't take anything to the heart or your time here will become increasingly unbearable.
3.6 I'll add more later on.
4. Finally, for Room 101 inhabitants, some features of our room -
4.1 Dont' position your bed next to the wall opposite the door - Rainwater seeps through the ceiling.
4.2 The Commode & the adjoining pipe also leak lot. It would be a good idea to place a bucket there.
4.3 The flush jams and water doesn't come out quickly sometimes. To solve this, turn on the water flow into the flush tank, open the lid & pull the handle of the ball is there. It'll ease some water and after refilling, your flush should work normally.
4.4 The paint keeps coming off from the ceiling.
4.5 Water seeps through the bathroom walls too, so don't leave your clothes hanging in the rainy season.
Enjoy your 1st year to the fullest. I'll now venture into our adventures in our 1st yr.
